Our Goals
Our aim is to provide the victims with an income, infustructure, health facitlities, schools and a sense of worth. Creating small businesses such as production of goods to sell in reason 2 live shops through out Australia. 100% of profits will go straight to the people and villages within the Ampere district. Handloom items, embroidered products, candles and batik is just the beginning which will provide income for desolate people. People who have lost friends and family and desperately need a reason and a right to find peace.
Handlooms are needed to weave yarn into fabric for the production of sarongs, saris, bed sheets and other forms of linen.
Sewing machines are needed to produce products from casual shirts, skirts, beachwear to sheets and pillow cases. The fabrics are traditional to Sri Lanka and will all be original merchandise for sales in Australia.
Woodwork and metalwork production units are also essential. These stations can produce items such as combs, hair-slides, spoons and forks, tables, wrought iron stools, ornaments, lampshades, ashtrays, and wooden beads. Additionally, a tumbling and cutting machine is required so the people can make jewelery from local materials.
We plan to market the products of such Industries through Reason 2 Live shops in capital cities of Australia. All profits will go back to the people of the Tirrukkovil district to improve the living standards and further business for the victims.
Initially we are aiming to raise $35,000 which will be used to purchase handlooms and sewing machines to buy raw materials to get people started on these tasks.
We are at planning stages for the men to help in the clearing of rubble and the making of concrete blocks which will be resold to aid networks who are actually involved in rebuilding.
We will also be seeking assistance from other governmental bodies to help in the re-development of the fishing industry such as prawn farming and repairs of fishing equiptment (boats and nets). A data base is being formed at present to the extent of damages to infrastructure and of the local skills available in the industry.
A census is being held at present through Heart Reach Australia (our partner) on a "schools project". This involves how many schools have been washed away and how many are still standing within the district. Also to find out how many children went to the schools, to how many children are still alive and are needing an education.
In the near future Heart Reach Australia will be negotiating with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health for refugee camp clinics and staffing. Forming sister hospitals by linking foreign medical personnel for short term visit's.
This is not an easy task by all means but these victims have been left strandard and are suffering silently just awaiting for our help. This is why we are asking for your hearts to help us help the survivors of the Tsunami in Sri Lanka.
